King David Lawsuit

Avital et al. V. the Greek Orthodox Church et al

Representation of two entrepreneurial real estate companies in a claim against the Greek Orthodox Church in Jerusalem, regarding damages totaling NIS 88 million.

The claim concerns a breach of contractual obligations and non-compliance with agreements in good faith by the Greek Orthodox Church, which eventually led to the spoiling of a promising real estate project in one of Jerusalem’s prestigious land plots. As is well known, after the death of the Patriarch in 2000, and because of internal disputes in the Church’s authorized forums, the new Patriarch was not legally recognized for about five years as Head of the Church. As a result, the Church breached the agreements with the entrepreneurial companies and caused them damages totaling tens of millions of New Israel Shekels.
